Michael Steppes studied Arabic and translation studies in Halle (Saale) and Bonn. From 1990 to 1996 he was a systems analyst at startext GmbH and from 1996 to 2011 editor-in-chief of the Allgemeines Künstlerlexikon at K.G. Saur/de Gruyter Verlag. Since 2011 he has been back at startext, where he works in sales and customer support.
