Prof. Dr. Guido Fackler

Vita

Prof. Dr Guido Fackler studied folklore, musicology and ethnology at the University of Freiburg. He then completed a museum traineeship at the Badisches Landesmuseum in Karlsruhe and held various positions as a research assistant in the Department of European Ethnology/Folklore at the Universities of Regensburg and Würzburg. There, from 2010 onwards, he established the Chair of Museology (now: Chair of Museum Studies), the first academic department at a German university to offer all levels of academic qualification (BA, 3 x MA, PhD). Fackler’s main areas of research are exhibitions (physical and digital), museology, the museum sector, audience research, landscape/space, canal systems/artificial waterways (habilitation in 2011), and music in the Nazi concentration camp system (PhD in 2000).

Sustainable, international, intercultural: ‘GreenMuseumHub’ connects Egypt, Germany and Tunisia

The “GreenMuseumHub” network links the departments of Museum and Heritage Studies at the universities of Würzburg, Helwan (Egypt) and La Manouba (Tunisia) with 30 partner museums. From 2023 to 2025, it explored the theme of sustainability through conferences, networking trips and online lectures. To mark the end of the project, 37 students organised the pop-up exhibition ‘We Wanna Live!’. It is touring the partner countries and demonstrates, in an everyday context, how museums recycle resources, reduce CO₂ emissions and break down barriers.
