Dr. Marko Mele

Vita

Marko Mele is the Scientific Director of the Universalmuseum Joanneum. An archaeologist with a PhD, he previously held various posts in Slovenia and Germany before becoming Chief Curator for Prehistory and Early History at the Universalmuseum Joanneum and Deputy Head of the Department of Archaeology & Numismatic Collection, and has led several major European projects. He is a certified cultural manager and a member of several national and international professional associations.

Digital Transformation at the Universalmuseum Joanneum

The talk provides an insight into the Universalmuseum Joanneum’s digital transformation strategy and demonstrates how digital technologies are bringing about lasting change to collection management, research, education and the visitor experience. Drawing on current projects – ranging from digital collections and AI applications through to gamification and specific examples from the 2026 annual exhibition – the talk will demonstrate how digital innovations are broadening access to cultural heritage and enabling new forms of participation and knowledge transfer.
