Beyond Digitisation: The Skills Museums Need for the Digital

Digital transformation is changing how cultural heritage is preserved, managed and experienced – but technology alone is not enough. Museums, cultural organisations and creative SMEs need professionals who can connect heritage expertise with emerging digital tools. The Erasmus+ DigiHeritage project addresses this challenge by developing the new profile of the DigiHeritage Manager. During its first year, the project mapped current and future skills and training needs across Europe, with a particular focus on AI, blockchain, 3D and immersive technologies and digital heritage management. Building on these findings, DigiHeritage is now developing an innovative training pathway for higher education and vocational education and training. At MUTEC, we will share what we have learned so far, which skills are becoming increasingly relevant for the sector, and how education and cultural organisations can work together to prepare the professionals who will drive the next generation of digital heritage.
