The Bilbao Effect 2.0

4:00 PM - 4:30 PM Fri, 06 Nov

Short description

The Bilbao Effect 2.0: How lighting and the team’s attitude make sustainable change possible in the museum.

Description

The Bilbao Effect 2.0 describes how a team’s mindset enables sustainable change. Using the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao as an example, the presentation shows how an unsatisfactory tender led to a collaborative development with Zumtobel: the project luminaire that formed the basis for today’s global success, the ARCOS ZF. The new lighting improved light quality and reduced energy consumption. The savings in running costs created scope for further initiatives, including social and cultural developments such as invitations for school classes and nurseries, or public transport tickets for staff. What makes this special? Questioning existing approaches, developing solutions together and building on the successes achieved. In this way, a lighting project becomes the catalyst for a wave of change within the museum.
