Security for museums in the age of cybercrime

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM Thu, 05 Nov

Short description

ICOM Germany panel discussion

Description

Cybercrime is no longer a marginal issue for museums. We are hearing more and more frequently about ransomware and other cyber-attacks on museums, libraries and archives. The threat scenarios vary, but can have massive consequences for both small and large institutions, with which they may have to contend for years to come. We want to discuss with experts why cultural heritage institutions – with their networked security technology, sensitive loan and insurance data, and limited IT resources – are attractive targets; where physical and digital security intersect today; and which organisational and technical foundations make the biggest difference in defence. How is the increasingly dynamic situation in the field of cybercrime viewed and assessed within the industry, by the police, at the affected institutions, and by the IT consultants?
