Jan Hörster

Vita

Jan Hörster comes from the world of building materials – and is now exploring how sustainable construction can move from being a niche activity to becoming standard practice in the building industry. Having held positions in the building materials trade and in technical sales, he now works at conluto on modern applications for clay-based building materials. He is less interested in ‘ecological construction’ as an end in itself than in the question of how materials can become more recyclable, functionally effective and, of course, easy for designers and builders to use.

40 per cent less energy for air conditioning – what we can learn from the Vorarlberg Museum

A museum must preserve art whilst also operating efficiently. The Vorarlberg Museum demonstrates how a shrewd choice of materials reduced the scale of the planned air-conditioning system and permanently cut the calculated energy requirements for ventilation by 40 per cent. A practical example that encourages a change in thinking.
