Vortrag

New digital possibilities with the highest resolution color SMARTTECH3D scanners for archaeological use- eternal archiving, virtual research, 3D printing, and more.

Kurzbeschreibung

The lecture presents possibilities, that the use of structured light 3D scanners allows in the archaeological field.

The subject will be illustrated based on exemplary projects completed with SMARTTECH3D devices- a few of the finished archaeological projects that used 3D scanners as a base tool will be described, to draw the possibilities, which 3D scanners can offer to modern researchers of the past.
SMARTTECH3D, as a leader in the color 3D scanning market, creates its devices within the recommendations of the Polish National Institute of Museums and Collections. For many years museums and universities all over the world raise interest to add a modern high-tech tool to archiving, digitalization, touchless research, creating online databases, or popularization. 3D scanner opens many doors for scientists, at the same time securing the safety of artifacts and works of art.

Beschreibung

The lecture presents various possibilities, that the use of structured light 3D scanners allows in the archaeological field. The conclusions on the subject are a result of over 20 years observation of the archaeological market, its needs and expectations from the new technologies, as well as various projects, that involved the 3D scanner use.

The subject will be illustrated based on exemplary studies completed with SMARTTECH3D devices- a few of the finished archaeological projects that used 3D scanners as a base tool will be described, to draw the possibilities, which 3D scanners can offer to modern researchers of the past. The involvement of structured light scanning in artifact registration allowed many different applications, which grew from very precise digitalization. The use of a professional measuring device in the research elevates the simple 3D visualization to achieving a Digital Twin of anobject, that can be measured in detail, easily shared as a database, and be the first step for various modifications- in conservation process or for educational and commercial use. Besides the metric value, the 3D models made with SMARTTECH3D color scanners carry information about the color and texture of the artifact, which is very often a key factor in the field, allowing the scanning result to be useful for archaeological research.

SMARTTECH3D, as a leader at the color 3D scanning market, creates its devices within the recommendations of the Polish National Institute of Museums and Collections. Besides the careful scanner design consulted with museum specialists, since few years SMARTTECH3D cooperates with experienced professionals to create company Department of Archaeology and Museology Implementations, which takes care of the safety protocols for the scanners made for archaeologists, as well as involves them in the development of new products that will apply for that specific market needs. For many years museums and universities all over the world raise interest to add a modern high-tech tool to archiving, digitalization, touchless research, creating online databases, or popularization. SMARTTECH3D scanner opens many doors for scientists, at the same time securing the safety of artifacts and works of art.
