Monitoring is caring: From measurement to collection management

Charp develops environmental monitoring systems for objects and collections in museums, archives and heritage libraries, whether they are kept in storage, shown on display, or sent out on loan.

This talk looks at the practical tools that make the system work: loggers and software that capture, present, and document temperature, relative humidity, and light data without unnecessarily interfering with exhibition scenography. The devices are designed to remain neutral and unassuming, while still keeping aesthetics in mind. At the centre is the interplay between hardware and software: keeping things simple while fine-tuning the instruments so they remain clear, practical, and reliable in everyday use. Beyond recording conditions, the system helps turn environmental data into clearer decisions for collection care.
