The MUTEC Award enters its second round!

Finally, a platform for innovative exhibition projects! The MUTEC Award ceremony creates visibility exactly where it matters: at the heart of the international trade fair for museum and exhibition technology.

The three most outstanding projects realised between 2024 and 2026 will be honoured – first place with €2,000, second place with €1,500 and third place with €1,000. The MUTEC Award is presented in cooperation between Leipziger Messe, VerA – Verband für Ausstellungsgestaltung e.V. and ICOM Deutschland.

The application phase begins in March. Projects can be submitted until 31 July 2026. Further information will follow shortly.

A brief look back at the 2024 premiere highlights the diversity and innovative strength of the award-winning projects:

The scenography agency TAUCHER was honoured for its exhibition at the Museum roter Haubarg in Eiderstedt – a historic building once used for stacking (or in Frisian, “bergen”) hay, transformed into a narrative museum in which the house and exhibits themselves tell the story.

At the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn, an exhibition on “Immanuel Kant and the Open Questions” impressed visitors. The occasion was the 300th birthday of the Enlightenment philosopher Immanuel Kant, born on 22 April 1724. Sunder-Plassmann & Werner Szenografie portrayed Kant’s life as a graphic novel and brought his birthplace, Königsberg – now Kaliningrad – to life in virtual reality.

How do the residents of a city envision their future? And what do they expect from their own museum? The Kieler Stadt- und Schifffahrtsmuseum faced the challenge of repositioning itself and commissioned the team at gwf-Ausstellungen to actively involve visitors. “Kiel, YOU are being asked!” was the title of the exhibition, which successfully integrated a workshop-style audience study.

A museum that speaks for itself, the life of a philosopher as a graphic novel, a city experienced in virtual reality, and an audience study embedded in an exhibition – it was a successful debut for the MUTEC Award.

Which projects will be honoured in 2026? Stay tuned – we will keep you informed!
