If AI knows everything – why should we still go to museums?

How experiences can strengthen museums’ educational mission in the age of AI.

12:30 PM - 12:45 PM Thu, 05 Nov

Short description

If AI can answer any question, what role do museums still play as places of learning? This talk explores how learning is changing in the age of AI and why interactive, personalised experiences can play a crucial role in inspiring people’s enthusiasm for museums and their content.

Description

Artificial intelligence is fundamentally changing the way we access knowledge and learn. On the one hand, large language models are powerful tools for understanding complex relationships. On the other hand, they make it easier than ever to obtain answers without having to engage deeply with a question oneself.

What does this mean for museums, whose central social role is the dissemination of knowledge and education?

In a world of virtually unlimited digital information, authentic, collaborative and interactive experiences are becoming increasingly important. They can motivate people to visit museums, spark curiosity and open up access to new topics.

This talk will demonstrate why visitor engagement and the educational mission are closely linked, what opportunities AI and interactive technologies offer, and how museums can create new visitor experiences even with limited financial resources.
