Saxon Museum Association’s 2026 Professional Development Conference / IT Skills in Everyday Museum Life

Advance booking required

9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Thu, 05 Nov

Short description

Where does artificial intelligence (AI) begin? Which generative AI models does my organisation permit? How do I cite AI-generated content? The digital possibilities are both promising and challenging in their complexity, fast-paced nature and constant availability. Artificial intelligence is fundamentally transforming the interplay between business and society. The Free State of Saxony is in the process of developing a strategic approach to this.

Description

This training programme supports the Free State’s educational approach of enabling young people to acquire skills at an early stage in technologies that transform work processes by recognising patterns in large volumes of data.

Artificial intelligence can be helpful in cataloguing objects and collections, developing educational concepts and content, conducting research in the context of exhibition development, and in public relations work tailored to specific target groups.

The effective use of artificial intelligence in day-to-day museum work requires legal certainty, IT expertise, sound specialist knowledge, as well as leadership skills and the appropriate technical infrastructure. Looking ahead, it is important to identify potential areas of application, understand the legal implications and establish procedures for the use of AI.

During the training conference, areas of application for generative artificial intelligence systems in everyday museum life and their limitations will be presented and discussed. Marketing strategies that specifically address AI readability will also be examined from our guests’ perspective.

The workshop discussions will provide an opportunity to exchange experiences and strengthen collaboration. To this end, we would like to share two questions with you today, which we intend to explore in greater depth during the workshop discussions:

1: Where do you see potential applications for generative AI systems in day-to-day museum operations, and what skills do you and your staff need to ensure they are used safely and effectively?

2: What is the technical infrastructure of your organisation, and what measures have you put in place with regard to IT security?
