Achieving more together – collaborative digital museum work

4:30 PM - 5:15 PM Thu, 05 Nov

Description

DigiCULT is a cooperative network of cultural institutions. Using our jointly developed software solutions, our members catalogue, publish and link their collections of artefacts. As a network of partners, we make our cultural heritage openly accessible and thus more visible. To this end, we share our data with national platforms such as the German Digital Library (DDB) and Europeana. We are part of a vast digital cultural landscape, which our expert members help to shape with their content and which we help to shape with our innovative developments. Regional cooperation partners play a key role in this, translating shared infrastructure and digital solutions into practical museum work. Using the example of the collaboration between digiCULT-Verbund eG, the Thuringian Museum Association and the Thuringian University and State Library in Jena, we demonstrate how pooled expertise, centralised advisory and support services, and shared technical resources can assist smaller and medium-sized museums in particular with the digital cataloguing and promotion of their collections. In addition to specific practical examples, we will also examine the challenges and insights arising from such cross-institutional and cross-regional collaboration.
