MUTEC 2010 – Focus on new technologies

The core area of the MUTEC in Leipzig will be innovative, digital technologies. State-of-the-art developments are the answer to today’s challenges and possibilities of communication and visitor attraction and retention.

At the MUTEC, a new generation of Audio Guides, Smartphone Applications, 3D Applications in Museums, Virtual Conception and Interactive Presentation Techniques, Film Production for Museums, Analytical Equipment and Electronic Security Technology, Climate Technology and Fire Protection, Digital Signage and Effective Ticketing, Lighting Technology, Social Media and Mobile Marketing, Solutions for Digital Archiving, Data Management and Documentation will be showcased – MUTEC covers all aspects of the modern world of museums.

Exhibitors of the MUTEC will be top-class companies such as Acoustiguide, ADLIB, Amepheas, AnalytiCON, Antenna Audio, Beckerbillett, Dallmeier electronic, echtzeitMEDIA, the Society for the Promotion of Applied Computer Science (Gesellschaft zur Förderung angewandter Informatik), impuls-design, die InformationsGesellschaft, Joanneum Research, Lightequip, Linon Medien, Rentokil, Roblon Lighting, Soundgarden, startext, VRLogic, zetcom and many more. 60 producers will be presenting their products at MUTEC’s new start in Leipzig.

Museums are associated with a new role in society. They function as centers of knowledge and places for encounter and communication. Their collections and archives are said to be gold mines for the knowledge-based society, digital technologies will open up new chances for distribution and application. Thanks to their cultural assets, museums meet the requirements of the “new world” and can take advantage of it.

Some aspects and approaches will be dealt with in the ancillary program MUSEUMS AND DIGITAL LIFE. Subjects will be (amongst others): Web 2.0 / Museum 2.0 – The new relation between museums and society, Trends in media usage, Apps for museums – new possibilities for information brokerage and attracting and retaining visitors, 3D applications in museums – from object scanning to stereoscopy, Digital Video Security for museums, Hands on! Museum software to be tested at the HTWK – afterwards get-together of practitioners and students.
