MUTEC 2010 – Technologies for the arts

Germany is a country of museums: More than 8000 galleries and museums and constantly more than 100 million visitors per year during the last years have been an impressive proof.

However, the financial crisis and the state’s and the municipality’s need to economise do not leave this culturally and socially important sector unaffected and confront museums with the problem to offer exciting exhibitions in a modern and attractive area despite their short budgets.

At the MUTEC, 65 exhibitors show which investments museums can make to meet these requirements – innovative technologies and developments are in the spotlight.

Especially the field of light demands a great deal of museums. Well-known exhibitors such as Lightequip, Alexander Weckmer or the innovative start-up Kiteo present high class products and the latest LED-technologies. With its glass-/plastic fibre lighting without warmth and ultraviolet and infrared rays, Roblon Lighting offers a secure solution for susceptible artefacts. A multi-functional and energy-efficient LED-lamp which has already attracted attention at great events in Germany and Spain is offered by the Bamberger Lebenshilfe Werkstätten.

Joanneum Research developed IMDAS pro, a new system for the management of collections and objects. It also allows the commercial usage of this data on the web. With the tool eXhibition3D the attractive illustration in 3D is enabled. Other systems for the ideal development and usage of inventory are presented by Zetcom, Startext and Adlib Information Systems.

Further products on offer are: Devices for pollutant analysis, concepts for the efficient safety of exhibits, tickets systems, information systems and electronic aids for the blind, climate and measuring technology, environmental technology, furnishing for depots, cabinets and large screen presentations. Consultants for the conception and design of museums are also exhibitors of the MUTEC.

Apps and Web 2.0, Mobile Media, 3D simulation and virtual worlds are finding their way into museums and offer attractive possibilities for visitors to deeply experience exhibitions. Therefore, many exhibitors of the MUTEC offer products from this segment. tonwelt developed the museum-app CultY and with the  Informationsgesellschaft’s xpedeo the coal mine Zollverein can be discovered. Various other producers of audio guides such as Antenna Audio, Acoustiguide, pausanio or a:xperience have adapted their production to the rapid spread of smartphones. Interactive systems and touch screens for 3D without glasses are presented by Tridelity.

MUTEC’s ancillary program MUSEUMS AND DIGITAL LIFE is dedicated to the new media technologies and their importance for museums. It offers talks, presentations and best practice examples for the application of digital, interactive and mobile technologies in the world of museums and exhibitions.

MUTEC - the International Trade Fair for Museum and Exhibition Technology is being added to the Leipzig calendar of trade fair events in 2010. It will be held parallel to denkmal. Two complementary shows in one venue – new and positive accents will be set both for exhibitors and visitors through this combination, such as an immense, complementary range of exhibits. The products exhibited at the MUTEC will also be of interest to visitors of the denkmal.

Save the date – MUTEC + denkmal: One place, one date, one ticket.
